Software Metrics Studies and OS Projects: academia vs infrastructure

44-full
During the last years a number of research teams have been focusing on the empirical study of libre (free, open source) software, using data available from public repositories of development projects (CVS or Subversion repositories, issue tracking systems, mailing lists, etc.). Projects in the ASF have been very studied, often without awareness of the community and putting a significant strain on the infrastructure resources. Many benefits can arise, both for Apache and for the research community interested in it, if some simple collaboration patterns are established between both parties. The talk presents areas and concrete proposals of cooperation between the ASF and groups doing this kind of research.
