ApacheCon Session
Java and the JCP - A Layperson's Tour of Java Specification Licensing
Java is more than a programming language - it's a technical ecosystem governed by the Java Community Process (JCP), the specification organization through which new Java specifications are created, and old ones are enhanced. This session will give a layman's overview of the Java specification process and the legal and licensing requirements behind Java specifications. It will also cover Apache's history as a participant in the Java Community Process, our success in making the process compatible with open source development, and how Apache projects deal with the various requirements for implementing a Java specification. The speaker is the current representative of Apache to the Java Community Process Executive Committee for Java SE and SE.
