About ApacheCon Europe 2000
The
Apache Project
has accomplished a feat that should make it the envy
of commercial software developers everywhere. Without spending a
cent on research, marketing, or advertising, this group of volunteer
programmers (the Apache Group) created Apachethe Web server
software that may be the most widely used server product on the
Internet today. In April of 1999, the Apache Group incorporated
as The Apache Software Foundation,
a not-for-profit organization
with a goal of developing and supporting open-source projects.
