As CNN.com has increased its usage of rich media and personalization, Apache HTTP Server has remained at the core of our serving infrastructure. Increasingly, we have used it to glue together many different technologies to maintain both the user experience and the health of our datacenters. We have learned how to span our caching architecture across multiple datacenters and how Ajax can help isolate fault domains. Includes such techniques as hierarchical caching, global server load balancing, fault isolation, configuration templates, and general Web server hacking.
