Marshall Schor shepharded UIMA into the Apache Incubator, and has been an active committer on the project ever since. In his previous lives, he has done everything from burning out printed circuit boards using nothing more than an oscilloscope probe, to making a non Common-Lisp Lisp dialect turn into Common Lisp. One of his more fun projects ended up as a product you could buy in Staples for a while - a version of a language translation program that ran on PDAs, and spoke the translated result. He also dabbled in managing Researchers but gave that up (after putting in his time) in favor of resuming technical work. In his spare time (not too much left after a family with 2 kids), he conducts a small choir, and plays chamber music.
