CAcert

CAcert

Community Project

CAcert.org is a community driven Certificate Authority that issues free certificates to the public at large. More than 30,000 users have already had their identity verified and CAcert has already issued over 54,000 certificates. These certificates can be used to sign and encrypt email, authenticate and authorize users connecting to websites and secure data transmission over the Internet. Any application that supports the Secure Socket Layer (SSL) can make use of certificates signed by CAcert. CAcert is supporting the secure Internet transactions all over the world and their website has been translated into many different languages to enable easy access for everyone. At large events like ApacheCon Europe 2005 CAcert.org sponsors Assurance Events to enable more users to be verified into the system.

Debian Project

Debian Project

Community Project

The Debian Project is a collaborative effort to create a free operating system, known as Debian GNU/Linux or simply as Debian. The Debian system currently uses the Linux kernel but ports to the Hurd, NetBSD and FreeBSD kernels are under development. Debian systems using the Linux kernel are available for 11 architectures, which makes Debian an excellent system for porting efforts. Debian consists entirely of Free Software and offers a Social Contract which ensures the sustainability of the system. Debian offers great features to maintain and update your system without much effort (even remotely) and is therefore very well suited for servers. Subtle software interoperability enhancements and projects like Debian Desktop make Debian suited for end-user machines as well.
